Technology Has Changed So Much in Healthcare

Working in healthcare today is quite different than it was 25 years ago. Every now and then there is a breakthrough that changes the way we operate, especially in our careers. The medical industry has had several major developments that help with the way patients receive their treatment. From the way we enter our patients into the database to the way track and give treatment, technology has advanced all aspects of care. Technology has boosted the healthcare industry with equipment, inpatient logs, and patient history.

Equipment

Hospitals are huge, there are tons of patients to see after, and usually there is minimal staff per shift that makes rounds in a department. Thanks to technology, there are easier ways to serve patients that come into the hospitals. Changing over medicine used to take up to 30 minutes and thanks to new equipment, the process can now be done in less than a minute. Nurses are using a Baxter IV Pump now, which helps keep track of medicines and creates a smoother workflow.

Inpatient Logs

Keeping up with patient symptoms and treatments can be difficult. With technology, this information is now all kept electronically. Charts are pulled up at the patient’s bedside and information can be figured out in the instant. There are no guesses and backtracking to see who administered the previous treatment. Doctors and nurses can keep their notes in the system for each patient. It allows the service providers to spend less time on paperwork and care more for the patient. It also speeds up the care process. Patients are sometimes in a lot of pain, and have to wait a while for the medication due to timing etc. Today, hospital bracelets can be scanned and patient information is transferred into the system right away.

Patient History

Patients that frequent the hospital could be close to impossible to track down without electronic medical records on file. Electronic records can date back very far, and let the hospital know why the patient is visiting so often, and if there is a recurring condition. Primary care physicians can use the data records from the hospital to further treat the patient. In some cases the patient needs to see a specialist to get proper diagnosis and a more advanced treatment option.

Technology has helped tremendously in the amount of people that can seek care today, and the amount of care that can be administered. Even though each new piece of technology calls for continuing education, in the end it’s worth it because it ultimately makes caring for patients a more seamless process. There are various medications and ailments out there and each case can be different. Doctors and nurses have to deal with allergies and various dosage levels of medications. It seems the only way to get all of this done today is by having a strong technology system, managing and organizing all of the important information. Technology has advanced our equipment, inpatient logs, and the way we keep patient records in healthcare.
